Transport and Logistics! Just the mention of these word could mean a nightmare to an individual or a logistics partner. I hope this blog helps planning of transport more bearable and efficient.
There are different modes of transport but we will classify them in two.
- Public Means
Did you know choosing public transportation just two days out of five will cut personal greenhouse gas emissions by 25%. Less noise, pollution and congested roads. Don’t you just loath traffic! This system of transportation operates on established routes and followed a particular schedule. So if you are a methodological or procedural person, could be a good idea to go public 😊. We will highlight the different modes here, buckle up for the ride.
Riding on a bus means one car less on the road. Great eyy! Different companies have tour buses for hire. Tourist; Local and International, are bundled up in one bus and transported from one destination to another. Just so you know! Riding a transit bus is 90 times safer than car travel.
Matatu; The younger sister of Mr. bus. Matatu’s can best be defined as smaller versions of buses. They are usually privately owed. They are so rich with the local culture commonly referred to as Matatu Culture; Some are color changing;depending on weather(temperatures), graffiti in and out of the matatu and the music, Ah!Amazing.
Apologies for digressing, excitement took the better part of this mode. Most matatu’s have contact numbers placed on the rear window or just at the door. You can call the number with a request to hire. However if you are not hiring, they are ideal for transit from one point to another at extremely affordable rates. Cheaper than your average taxi.

Drum rolls please, Our Madaraka Express is 2 years 2 months old. It was named Madaraka express since it was unveiled when Kenya celebrates the day it attained independent self-governance after decades as a British colony. Madaraka is a Swahili word for “freedom, independence”
The freedom is now extended to you the traveler. Services range from Express trains to and from Mombasa with some having Inter-county stops and train services. Check out Kenya Railways Service Charter.
2. Private mode
Don’t we all love control? You want to travel in the middle of the night? You do not have to wait for the bus or scheduled train. The below means of transport are perfect for you. Enjoy!
- Car Hire/ Rental
For more control and flexibility in your transport, this is the best option. You can instruct your driver to go wherever you would like. Think about it as your private chauffeur. You would have to part with quite a penny though
‘Uber’ here is used figuratively to represent all car ride services and apps. We live in the digital era where our mobile phones are less than 1 meter away, making this the most efficient transportation means. Just from the click of a button, you can order your ride, track your rider, share location with family and friends (safety measure), cost implication and an opportunity to compliment or report your driver. Control is in your hands.
- Self- Driving
The above suggested means may have limited control as opposed to the this one. You can blast the music as loud as possible or drive in silence, eat, drink and basically do all you wish. You are not accountable to anyone unless it is a borrowed car.
Now tell us, which means suits you and why?
Transporting you with love,
